Although we still technically have a few days before the official first day of fall, in my mind it’s been fall since early August.
Fall is the most glorious time of year and brings with it, cooler weather, chunky sweaters, cozy boots, changing colors, falling leaves, and flickering candles.
There’s nothing quite like strolling the isles of your favorite Hobby Lobby and immersing yourself in all things fall and Halloween.
So why not combine the two most wonderful times of the year, fall and Halloween?
As you know, here at Two Crafty Gals, we’re all about recycling and purposing things to turn them into budget-friendly decor for all holiday’s and seasons.
So today, grab your old coffee cans, we’re making jack-o’-lantern luminaries! Oh, and the best part, these luminaries cost less than a few bucks!

DIY Coffee Can Jack-o’-lantern Luminaries
Before hammering into your coffee can, draw the outline of your favorite jack-o’-lantern face with a sharpie.
Get creative and create a whole bunch of different faces for each person in your family!
A little trick I used to make sure I didn’t dent the coffee can and to help with hammering around the face, I froze water in my coffee can as shown below. Seriously, this helps!
I tried to skip this step…and…it just didn’t work.
Once you are happy with your jack-o’-lantern faces, and the water in your coffee can is frozen, grab your nail and hammer and begin hammering small holes around the face that you outlined.
I found it was the easiest to hold the cans between my knees to keep it stable while hammering.
After you’re done hammering all of the holes around the outline of your jack-o’-lantern, you can use spray paint or acrylic paint to give your pumpkin that vibrant orange color.
I also used black acrylic paint to paint the back eye and mouth shapes.
These adorable luminaires are perfect for your front porch, to add a festive touch to any room in your home or as a fun holiday gift!
They’re also perfect for illuminating your driveway during trick or treating and adding a spooky touch!
